Wine tasting in Empordà to delight the senses

Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Pyrenees, the vineyards of Empordà stretch from the coast to 260 metres above sea level. Travelling through this region is like experiencing a firework display of sensory stimuli, crowned by the scent of aromatic plants such as rosemary and thyme, which grow over the rocks on the Costa Brava. With each step, the traveller gets closer to the heart of the region’s secrets, with the opportunity to delight the taste buds with an exquisite wine tasting.

Empordà has an impressive range of wines. The red wines are of high quality, full-bodied, well-structured and harmonious. The reserve and crianza wines have very characteristic aromatic notes; they are complex, subtly fragrant, with spicy tones, always preserving fruity and vegetal aromas. On the palate, they reveal their fullness of flavour with a very pleasant finish.

Traditional varieties such as Carignan, Samsó and Garnacha dominate the red wine production, although other varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are also used.

But it is not only red wines that are produced in Empordà, there are also fresh and tasty whites, often made with indigenous varieties, and other varietal wines of remarkable quality. There are also rosé wines, characterised by their cherry-red colour and great personality, as well as their delicate aroma, freshness and moderate alcohol content.

Among the white varieties, Garnacha and Macabeo are the most common. We also find Muscatel, Xarelo and new varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer.

⭐ Bodegas d’en Guilla

Also known as Celles d’en Guilla, this winery is about twenty minutes’ drive from our hotel with sea views in Roses  If there is one thing that defines this bodega, it is the production of “new wines with grapes from old vines”. They are a new limited production winery in the Delfià district of Rabós, Girona. By limiting production, the winery is able to guarantee the careful ageing of wines made with indigenous grape varieties from Empordà, which reflect an authentic image of the region.

It is possible to visit the facilities and taste the wines. You just need to book your visit in advance and get ready to enjoy some spectacular wine.

⭐ La Vinyeta

La Vinyeta winery is about twenty-five minutes from the hotel and was built in 2006, when the first bottles began to be produced. They have a wide range of quality wines including barrel-aged reds, as well as young wines, whites, rosés and sweet wines.

They have won several awards and their owners have earned the respect of the many visitors they receive and their colleagues in the trade. They offer a very friendly service and various activities such as wine tasting, picnics, yoga among the vines, and wine evenings where you can dine under the stars in the vineyards with live music. All very interesting proposals!

⭐ Vins and Caves Castell de Perelada

When Miquel Mateu bought Perelada Castle in 1923, he dreamed of recovering the wine culture of the fourteenth century. This is how the Castell de Perelada winery was founded, in the heart of Empordà. Thanks to the richness and heterogeneity of the soils on which the vineyards are planted, they obtain grapes with a wide range of nuances and complex wines full of character. Cava is one of the region’s most famous wines, and you should not leave the Castell de Perelada, around twenty minutes from the hotel by car, without trying it!

They offer a wide range of activities to allow you to enjoy their facilities and their wines, with guided tours, private tastings, experiences that include a Michelin-starred meal, and several other options.

⭐ Celler Cooperatiu d’Espolla

Founded in 1931, the Celler Cooperatiu d’Espolla is one of the most traditional wineries in the Alt Empordà region. Over the years, the co-operative has increased its membership and the variety of land and soils on which the winery is built, just twenty-five minutes from our hotel.

They produce various types of white, red and rosé wines. They offer a range of activities, from dramatised guided tours to rustic lunches. 

⭐ Bodega Mas Llunes

This traditional winery works with varieties such as Grenache and Carignan. The most interesting thing here is that, in addition to the usual wine tasting, they also offer “sensory wine tasting“, where they transform the experience into an explosion for the senses, using music, images, colours, light and the flavours and aromas of their wines. This winery is only twelve minutes from the hotel, so don’t miss it! 

⭐ Bodega Martí Faixó

Twenty minutes from the hotel, in Cap de Creus Natural Park, you will find Celler Martín Faixó, a project with a long tradition, focused entirely on offering its visitors a unique experience of the highest quality, with excellence as its trademark.
